We went to the train station and bought a train ticket to Brugge. It took about an hour and was so worth it. At the train station we took a bus into the center of town. Finding our way from one Place to the next we found the Burg which has a water way, canal, running through it. We took the canal tour and meandered through beautiful buildings while the boat driver spoke to the group in French, Flemish, English, and Dutch. Everything he said he said he repeated in all four languages.
After the boat tour we went back to the Burg and toured the Heilig Blutbasilika or Basilica of the Precious Blood, built in 1150. They have a capsul of Jesus blood in a gold en laden clear tube overseen by someone of the church. It was a woman sitting on an elevated platform with steps going up to it. You had to be very respectful in the Church of course. It was very quiet and very moving. I went up to experience and see and it was very moving. The Church itself was very small but beautiful inside. The outside of the church is very unassuming and could go unnoticed being butt up against a building in the square that is 3 or 4 times as tall and wide.
We then went back to the Markt, another Place or square we would say. In this Place were horse drawn carriages that offered tours through the town. We elected to walk as to be able to take photos as we wanted.
After our wonderful exploration of Brugge we bussed it back to the train station and then back to Bruxelles. We treated ourselves to a lovely dinner at an outdoor restaurant on the square of the Grand Place.
